The Squamish Community Foundation is inviting local businesses and residents to participate in our second annual Squamish Gives 5% campaign on Saturday November 29th.

Squamish Gives 5 is more than a giving campaign – it’s an investment in our community’s future. This initiative seeks to unite our community in supporting local businesses while raising donations for the Squamish Community Foundation (SCF) Smart and Caring Community Fund.

How it works

Participating businesses pledge to donate 5% or more of gross sales on Saturday Nov 29th to the Squamish Community Foundation (SCF). Every dollar raised goes to the SCF Smart and Caring Community Fund, which provides funding through annual grants to projects making a difference in Squamish.

In return, the SCF promotes participating business partners through community wide marketing, social media and local media outreach – encouraging the community to shop local, give local and build a stronger Squamish together.

Why donate to the Smart and Caring Community Fund?

Each year we receive more requests for funding than we have available. Most of our funds grant to specific and important local programming, addressing issues such as health, wellness, recreation, the environment and education. The Smart and Caring Community Fund is our most flexible fund. Growing it means we can respond to requests from local charities and non-profits for grants that address current and emerging community needs. Together, shoppers, businesses and the SCF build a long-term, sustainable source of funding that strengthen our ability to respond to vital community needs – forever.

Who benefits from the Smart and Caring Community Fund?

Over the past four years, nearly $17,000 has been granted out of the Smart and Caring Community Fund alone. Here are a few examples of the programs and services this fund supports.

    Sea to Sky Hospice Society

The Grief and Loss programs offered by the Sea to Sky Hospice Society provide compassionate, inclusive support to all Squamish residents navigating grief. Whether the loss is recent or long past, and regardless of any Hospice connection, their programs are open to everyone.  Programs include: free counselling, bereavement walks, book circles, grief and loss support groups, monthly caregiver support, events like The Memory Tree and Wave of Light events, and so much more. Squamish Volunteer Centre Society

The Digital Divide Project at the Squamish Welcome Centre provided devices and training to help community members, especially immigrant seniors, access online services safely. Participants gained skills to navigate digital life, like connecting with family abroad and making secure online purchases. Graduates received certificates, laptops, and accessories, fostering a more connected and inclusive community. Learn more about the Squamish Welcome Centre here: welcomesquamish.ca

    Whistler Adaptive Sports Program

The Whistler Adaptive Sports Society Program offers a multi-sport experience for Squamish children and youth with physical and cognitive disabilities and neurodiversity. With skilled coaches and adaptive equipment, the program enables local children and youth to participate in the many sports and recreation opportunities available in the Sea to Sky corridor while developing physical literacy skills for life. Tantalus Wellspring Society

The Tantalus Wellspring Society (TWS) identified a critical need for expanded mental health support in the community due to a longstanding and growing mental health crisis. Financial constraints limit access to qualified counselling, so TWS’s Empowerment and Choice Program offers up to five subsidized counselling sessions for youth, families, and individuals in need. This initiative ensures timely, affordable, and professional support, helping Squamish residents develop skills to manage mental health challenges.  Learn more about them: tantaluswellspring.ca
